Who is this guy?
Me? I’m just a guy, but one with an extensive amount of experience in Revenue Recognition matters. I am a boring accountant who needed to find something exciting to say about myself, so I decided that Revenue Recognition was the most exciting since I can say “I help companies with the biggest number on their P&L!” Because…if the Revenue line is not the biggest, then that means the math at the bottom line is less than desirable, which would also suggest revenue accounting is not your most immediate concern.
So for me, Revenue Recognition is exciting because I get to be as close to sales and marketing as an accountant can be without actually being in sales or marketing. Unlike many other accounting roles, dealing with Revenue Recognition matters is a great way to learn about what makes a company successful. For my clients, I get to recommend pricing strategies, review large complex contracts, and literally have an impact on their top line. On the other hand, I routinely deal with auditors, lawyers, respond to SEC comments, and sometimes draft a journal entry. Maybe it is not that exciting after all…
